Patient Account Representative

 

Marcam Associates is seeking an experienced Patient Accounting Representative for a Hospital in the Westerly Rhode Island area.

 

Patient Account Representative Responsibilities

 

  • Patient Account Representative understands and knows how to use the hospital’s information system relating to billing/accounts receivable and its relationship to the other departments in the hospital
  • Understands and knows how to address patient/customer questions and complaints pleasantly and effectively or directs the patient/customer to the correct person or department
  • Performs research of patient account information and follows up on questions/complaints in a timely manner
  • Prepares patient accounts in electronic format to be billed to assigned payers
  • Reviews and follows up on all patient accounts for assigned payers
  • Knows and abides by correct billing guidelines as mandated by the insurance that is being billed
  • Responsible for claims follow-up for all accounts as assigned by supervisor
  • Patient Account Representative accepts payments (including credit card), prepares receipts and makes change
  • Understands how diagnosis and procedure/supply coding relates to billing and reimbursement

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Patient Account Representative Requirements

 

  • High school diploma required
  • 2+ years of Patient Accounting with in a Hospital environment is desired
  • Patient Account Representative must be knowledgeable in HIPAA and compliance guidelines, protocols and procedures
  • General knowledge of medical terminology
  • Must have excellent communication skills with patients, providers and staff
  • Strong and accurate data entry and computer skills
  • Communicate effectively to dispute and reconcile claims
  • Works well with a remote team
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner
  • Ability to make basic numerical calculations
  • Ability to maintain accuracy
  • Ability to interpret accounts and records
  • Ability to persuade and influence
