Controller/Grants Manager
We are seeking a controller/grants manager who has direct experience managing finances in a small bio or device related company and is highly experienced in managing the finances associated with federal grant funding (NIH grants). The position is currently offered for half time with the possibility of converting to full time.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for grant budgeting and bi-monthly drawdowns from a federal website
- Track program-related Level of Effort allotted for each employee and sync grant financials accordingly
- Responsible for preparing financials for grant submissions and post award financials (carryovers, no cost extensions, FFR forms etc)
- Responsible for month end close in compliance with US GAAP; Generate monthly reports, P&L statements, balance sheet, cash flow analysis
- Assemble financials for the company’s accountant at fiscal year-end
- Assemble financials for meetings (e.g. quarterly project based accounting, cash flow)
- Manage day to day bill paying, reconcile bank statements and track complicated invoices related to IP costs
- Enter financial data in quick books
- Assist in preparing budgets and 5 year financial projections including projected salaries, clinical trial costs, CRO costs etc.
- Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audit (and federal grant-related audit) process; generate and review supporting documentation for audits as needed
- General Office Management; file management, oversight of external payroll provider
Qualifications:
- 3 years relevant financial/budgeting experience in a small bio or device focused company
- Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Demonstrated experienced in all aspects of finances related to NIH federal grants; such as calculation and distribution of direct/indirect costs and fees, pre and post award financial reporting.
- High level of knowledge of the SBIR grant funding process and the related financials; both pre and post award
- High level of expertise with quick books
- Demonstrated knowledge of bio or device focused corporate finance and accounting
- Ability to track convertible debt interest accruals on a day by day basis
- Outstanding excel skills
- Must be pro-active, highly detailed oriented, highly organized and accurate and willing to be part of a small, dedicated and very hard-working team
- The successful candidate will be adept at calculations
- Experience in modeling capitalization tables including equity and convertible debt is a plus
- Knowledge of costs of bio related R&D in the context of a small company company (e.g. clinical trial costs, consultants, CROs etc.) is a plus
