Banneker Industries is an emerging small business Supply Chain Management service provider, operating in a dynamic, global environment. Speed to execution, agility & flexibility and leadership to carry out our Strategic Plan are critical elements for success. Headquartered in Northern Rhode Island, Banneker Industries has a full time open position for a Supply Chain Manager reporting to the CFO/Executive Manager, Business Support. The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for all of Banneker’s purchasing activities handled in its Supply Chain department including, but not limited to, sourcing suppliers (identifying, auditing, quoting and onboarding, purchasing transactions such as PO placement, acknowledgement, expediting, change orders, technical and administrative support Point of Contact for Banneker).
Supply Chain is a bifurcated function at Banneker. We buy for our own internal needs, but, the greater part of our purchasing activity is Purchasing as a Service: we have customers who outsource a portion of their own purchasing activities to us. Banneker sees this area of the business growing for both our existing customers and new customers, becoming its own Profit & Loss Department.
Therefore, the Supply Chain Manager will be accountable for the efficacy of both the Company’s own purchasing activity and that which is outsourced to the Company by its Customers. The Supply Chain Manager must have experience managing sourcing, procurement and supplier management programs and/or have had commensurate responsibility in a purchasing department for manufacturing, aerospace or defense contractors or supplies thereto. Experience in managing and growing Supplier Diversity Programs is critical as well.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Operational
Partnering with suppliers and customers to meet operational targets, metrics and objectives
Advocating for best value purchasing for the company and its customers
Leading Banneker’s Supplier Diversity Program and its growth
Building cooperative, mutually beneficial and long-term relationships with suppliers
Establishing and managing a system of controls to meet service levels and operational goals
Managing resources and actively participate in planning, implementation and optimization of processes

Financial
Operating sensibly and within budget as a “profit center”; using resources at hand
Monitoring controllable costs; escalate complex cost, revenue, and rate issues to the CFO
Identifying cost savings and process efficiency opportunities
Utilizing lean/Six Sigma concepts to drive process improvement and cost reductions
Making decision and performing actions which will substantially impact the company’s profitability and/or operations

 Managing People
Building and maintaining a strong collaborative relationship with customers whose supply chain
program(s) we manage
Hiring, training and developing a team that embodies Banneker’s core values
Building expertise within the Department either based around Supply chain processes (sourcing,
procurement, expediting, etc.) or commodity purchasing (raw materials, electronics, COTS, etc.)

 Quality and Continuous Improvement
Contributing to maintaining compliance to Quality Management System certifications
Participating in projects and initiatives focused on driving Continual Improvement throughout the
organization
Identifying and leading continuous improvement projects to drive operational efficiency and achieve cost
savings
Evaluating the effectiveness of processes and recommending alternatives for work methods, procedures,
Controls, technologies and staffing to achieve efficiencies
 

 EHS and Security
Driving and promoting health and safety standards and practices by emphasizing the necessity of a safe work environment and compliance with company, customer and regulatory requirements.
 

Position and Experience Requirements:
 Bachelor’s degree in a business related field, along with the skills and abilities required by the position.
 A minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible job-related experience in strategic
sourcing/purchasing/procurement (aerospace, defense, or precision industrial parts purchasing processes.
 A Master’s degree in business or an equivalent Certification Program is preferred.
 The incumbent shall have or will obtain a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), CPI, ISM or relevant APICS
certification within two years of hire.
 Experience with Microsoft Navision a plus
 Previous experience managing staff either as a supervisor or manager

 Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills
 Excellent organization skills
 Ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities to the customer’s and the company’s
high standards of performance

 Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation and application of continuous improvement
projects
