 JOB SUMMARY: Reports directly to the Executive Director. Plan and direct the overall operation of the Resident Care Department in accordance with the current federal, state and local regulations and in accordance with Pacifica Senior Living established policies and procedures.  Maintain quality and consistency of assisted living care and supervise the nursing staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

ADMINISTRATIVE:

  • Maintain a consistent level of professionalism with residents, family members and staff.
  • Enforce compliance with all Administrative and Nursing Policies and procedures.
  • Make accurate decisions and take appropriate actions, especially with regards to changes in resident status.
  • Carry out all requests made by the Executive Director.
  • Keep the Executive Director informed of resident status and other related matters.
  • Complete Service Plans and keep them updated as needed.
  • Update MED AIDE/CNA/PCA assignments as necessary.
  • Set up and conduct care conferences with residents and families as needed.
  • Monitor resident’s medical records for accuracy and compliance with State regulations.
  • Attend all required meetings as requested,
  • Review medication sheets and physician order sheets monthly and as needed.
  • Complete 90 day resident assessments.
  • Complete all resident non-skilled treatments as ordered.
  • Receive and document any physician’s orders daily.
  • Chart appropriately on residents inter-disciplinary notes.
  • Complete necessary Incident Reports and notify the families, physician, DOH and Alliance, when needed, of an incident.
  • Encourage resident participation in activities.
  • Administer medication as needed.
  • Complete pre-admission assessment as required.
  • Follow up on any recommendations by the physician and consultants.
  • Complete required reports to the Executive Director.

PERSONNEL:

  • Recruit, interview and select Nursing Department.
  • Assure that appropriate identification documents are presented prior to employment and that such records are maintained in the staff’s personnel records.
  • Determine departmental needs.  Assign a sufficient number of nursing personnel hours for each day.
  • Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules) personnel, work assignments, etc.
  • Develop a staffing plan for coverage during your absence from the community.
  • Develop and maintain written job descriptions and perform evaluations for nursing personnel annually as needed.
  • Discipline Resident Care Personnel as necessary.
  • Terminate employment of personnel when necessary, documenting and coordinating such actions with the Executive Director.
  • Assure that personnel are performing required duties and appropriate nursing procedures are being followed.

STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, scheduling etc., of in-service training classes, and on-the-job training and orientation programs for nursing personnel.
  • Attend and assist with the in-service education programs.
  • Reinforce in-service education programs and assure staff attendance.
  • Participate in programs of continuing education (seminars, training, programs, etc.)
  • Assure that all Resident Care Personnel attend required training programs as established by the Health Department regulations.

SAFETY AND SANITATION:

  • Assure that Resident Care Personnel follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times.
  • Assure the cleanliness of all work areas, maintain an awareness of potential hazards and make recommendations to the Executive Director.

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES:

  • Recommend to the Executive Director the equipment and supply needs of the department.
  • Place orders for equipment and supplies as necessary.
  • Make period rounds to check equipment and to assure the necessary equipment is available and working properly.
  • Maintain inventory and records according to the established policies.
  • Oversee supply room and work areas to assure necessary supplies are available.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to interact effectively with residents, family members and staff.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to interact with Nursing department personnel, other department and physicians.
  • Computer experience a plus.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • RN graduate from an accredited registered nursing program.
  • Hold a current state RN license.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a clinical hospital setting, skilled nursing facility or home health care agency in working with individuals with memory loss/Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit and bend intermittently.
  • Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds if necessary.
