Job Description:
Under the direction of the Controller or his/her designee, the Associate Controller (AC) is responsible for financial integrity and reporting, process and policy design and improvement, internal control, and providing financial data to key decision makers while maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive materials relating to the business operations of the University.

Essential Functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Financial Reporting --
    a.   Provide oversight and direction over recording financial transactions
          to ensure integrity in financial reporting;
    b.   Prepare University and Law School Form 990 and 990T to ensure
          compliance with all IRS reporting requirements;
    c.   Provide oversight and direction for all financial aid related reporting
          associated with Perkins and the FISAP.
     
  2. Staff Supervision --
    a.   Supervise day to day operations and personnel including discipline
          and performance evaluation of multiple staff;
    b.   Supervise and schedule work study students and intern, when
          applicable;
    c.   Maintain a leadership role over the Accounts Payable department
          working closely with the Accounts Payable Manager/Staff
          Accountant II;
    d.   Ensure integrity of data entry standards, internal controls over
          financial reporting and compliance with regulatory standards;
    e.   Ensure compliance with student financial aid reporting, A-133
          reporting and all other grant requirements. 
     
  3. Accounting and Reporting --
    a.   Support the Controller in critical accounting functions such as
          insurance renewals, completion of surveys, workpaper and footnote
          preparation, drafting of audited financial statements and account
          reconciliations;
    b.   Prepare and maintain all required filings related to debt service, 
          such as bond ratios, arbitrage calculation, debt repayments and    
          analysis.
     
  4. Internal Controls & Process Improvement --
    a.   Oversee accounting procedures and internal control by evaluating
          and testing processes of a financial nature both internal and
          external to the Finance Office;
    b.   Assist in designing policies and procedures that provide effective
          controls and minimize risk to the University;
    c.   Participate as a member of the Risk Management Council.

In addition, this position is responsible for updating the Finance Office web page, assisting with special projects, and providing ad hoc reports and analysis.

Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is required (CPA or Master’s degree is strongly preferred) as well as intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advance skills in Excel and Access.  Candidates must have strong analytical skills and 3 - 4 years prior experience with analysis and forecasting.  To be successful in this position, candidates must possess supervisory skills with 3 -5 years prior experience with non-profit accounting.  Knowledge of Colleague is preferred.
