Title: Vice President of Finance
Level: Exempt

Position summary:

This position is responsible for the fiscal accounting, management and reporting, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, investments, cash flow, account analysis, project modeling and forecasting, business planning, financial statements, budget preparation and control and analysis. The Director of Finance also has involvement with legal issues, insurance and contracts, centralized administration /billing, facilities management and information technology functions. You will be responsible for complying with all city, state, and federal requirements.

This position will serve as a key advisor to the Association Board of Directors.

Key Activities:

  • Develop one year and multi-year financial and business plans
  • Provide the backbone for the Association, linking the organization’s strategic mission and vision to measurable financial goals and operating plan
  • Recommend capital allocation strategies
  • How much capital to spend and on which initiatives the dollars will be allocated
  • Manage Association’s financial and business operations
  • Ensure integrity of the Association’s cash, receivables, and payables management
  • Execute all major financial transactions (e.g. construction contracts)
  • Monitor the overall financial health of the Association using established metrics
  • Create and enforce financial policies and controls
  • Develop the Association’s financial reporting systems to facilitate management decision-making.
  • Design and implement processes and reports to give managers the
    necessary financial data to make informed business decisions.
  • Design the budgeting process to provide forecast and guidance for financial performance.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the monthly financial statements, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and property, general ledger, account analysis, capital expenditures and investments.

 

 

  • Responsible for analysis and reporting of financial statements for the CFO, CEO, Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Board Committees, Treasurer, and Department Heads or designees identified by the CEO.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintain relationships with financial intuitions
  • Develop, execute, and communicate the Association’s overall financial and business strategy to all stakeholders
  • Design and execute a strategy to communicate key elements of the Association’s financial strategy to Board of Directors, and staff.
  • Select and hire personnel with the experience and skills necessary to perform finance and administrative function
  • Support effective development and performance of staff
  • Provide mentoring and training for staff as required
  • Evaluate acquisition options and support new program development decisions, with financial evaluation.
  • Oversee management of centralized administration/billing function
  • Oversee management of information technology function ensuring that systems are effective and responsive to the organization’s business needs and strategic direction
  • Work with operations, human resources and insurance carriers to ensure that risk management programs, protocols, and processes are in place, implemented, and effective.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required and a Master’s Degree and/or a CPA designation are strongly preferred
  • Requires a minimum of ten years of successful business and finance experience, with at least five years in a senior leadership position
  • Will have demonstrated managerial, supervisory, and communication skills and will keep current with legal requirements
  • Extensive financial management experience, optimally in a human service, large non-profit or other multi divisional service organization; understanding of the non-profit environment and economics to elicit credibility
  • A mastery of the basics of: financial management (financial and managerial accounting, treasury operations, risk management [insurance, claims management, etc.], information technology [software systems, networks, etc.]); and the presence to deal with the financial community and to lead/orchestrate negotiations in major trans actions is essential

Language Skills:

  • Trained and well versed in Listen First, Support Change and Build Community Techniques would be desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, business reports, and procedure manuals as necessary.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before members or employees of the Association and the public is required.
  • Strong writing skills are also required.
  • Bilingual ability is a significant asset.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists is required.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proper work attire required
