Senior Technical Programmer

Position is full-time calendar year, limited to 06/23/2018 with extension contingent upon funding approval. Program and maintain computer software, hardware and communications systems for the Computer Science and Statistics Department. Monitor and report on systems performance.  Maintain up-to-date knowledge about computer support software and hardware, and security systems. Consult with and advise application development personnel. Function as a systems manager for the department, including support for: Websites design, development and maintenance; E-mail; Specialized research computing, hardware and software; and, Educational laboratories needed to support the courses, programs and students of the department (including Computer Science, Statistics, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Data Science, summer camp for K-12 students.). Perform other related duties as assigned, including: Management and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students who assist with technical support; Development of annual plans and budgets for refresh of software, hardware, and licenses; and, Deployment and monitoring of systems, printers, and security equipment; and Software license and computer account management. Coordinate with URI Information Technology Services to provide a consistent compute, network and security infrastructure. Assist in designing, programming, maintaining and/or implementing software modifications and systems. Assist in planning and conducting training courses in use and operation of installation software. Assist in establishing standards and consulting with applications development personnel on use of communications networks. Assist in determining problems in conjunction with applications staff. LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: UNIX System hardware and software, Networks, Printers, Desktop/Laptop computer systems.
