Act as part of a team supporting servers in a mixed environment of physical and virtual servers: the team is responsible for all day to day operation of core university systems, as well as maintenance and upgrades to existing applications and the implementation of new technologies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for day to day Linux server administration including modifications, upgrades, patching, backup, security and installation of software. Design, program and maintain specialized computer software used in support of applications. Analyze production and systems performance for determination of problem areas and proactively implement fixes and solutions. Maintain proficiency in programming, systems analysis and server software and hardware administration. Prepare feasibility studies of new systems. Coordinate and manage vendor activities. Coordinate with URI IT analysts and developers to ensure application performance and reliability. Support ITS Staff (Database & Application Development) in delivering technical solutions.
