JOB DESCRIPTION

The Managing Director will oversee the business and human resources operations of an expanding charter school organization. He/she will also be responsible for preparing various financial statements and reports, preparing and overseeing an annual budget, and working with the auditors. The Managing Director will focus on business operations, forecast and analysis, and setting business, financial, and operational goals.



The Nowell Leadership Academy is a charter school breaking the mold of the traditional public high school in Rhode Island in an effort to offer a rigorous, yet flexible alternative pathway to high school graduation using a blended model of virtual and on-site instruction.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

•A minimum five (5) years successful experience at an executive level in Business or Finance field


•BA or higher in Finance, Business Administration, Management, Accounting, or related field


•CPA or MBA is a plus


•Experience in managing a budget in excess of $2,000,000

•Broad experience and knowledge in Business/Financial management

•Broad experience and knowledge handling multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously 


•Experience working with a board of directors

•Thorough knowledge of MS office products, including Excel and PowerPoint


•Experience working with financial software

•Experience working with databases, Access or UCOA

SUMMARY OF RESONSIBILITIES:


  • Accounts Payable
  • Process Purchase Requisitions for approval
  • Maintain budgets for each department
  • Process for payment
  • Review and resolve statements/discrepancies
  • Obtain and maintain vendor bids, leases and contracts.   New vendors and contracts to be approved by Head of School
  • Accounts Receivable and preparation of deposits 
    • Bill Districts Quarterly-Make correction for new students and changes in residence
    • Process deposits-record/maintain and process bank deposits into software
  • Human Resources
    • Process new employees
    • Maintain personnel records-Payroll/Health/403b/Retirement/HRA
    • Payroll – Submit to Payroll Company two times per month.
    • Benefits – Manage contacts and contracts with those vendors
    • Administer support paperwork for payroll and benefits and in accounting software
    • Retirement plans – Submit bi-monthly paperwork to Employees State Retirement System and sends payments and oversees payroll company submission of payments.  Same for 403b retirement plans.
    • Field and research Health/Dental/HRA/personnel questions for staff
    • Leave request forms – Process forms for signature by Head of School
    • Maintain Leave Records
    • Preparation of staff employment agreements
    • Insure compliance with State and federal labor laws and practices
  • RIDE UCOA/Auditor General/RIDE reporting
  • General ledger updates and journal entry in accounting software
    • Reconcile Bank statements/investment/Capital accounts
  • Budget preparation and assistance to Head of School and Board of Directors
  • Accounting manual – Develop and update school office/administrative accounting procedures manual based on GAAP in coordination with Head of School and auditors
  • Grant reporting and document maintenance as assigned per procedure
    • Process/Maintain Quarterly Report
  • Assist in preparation of documents for annual audit and submit required documentation to Office of the Auditor General
  • Assist in preparation of documentation for tax filing
  • State reporting and data collection and preparation
  • Medicaid
    • Submit Quarterly Administrative Claiming Report
    • Maintain records for reimbursements to Department of Human Service
  • Recommend policies and procedures to improve fiscal operations
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, treasurer's reports and attend Board of Directors meetings

• Manage all Business Office personnel 


• Oversee facilities maintenance and acquisitions

• Work closely with school technology staff


• Maintain documentation in accordance with applicable laws
